Fighting Bear Antiques“I wanted the eclectic look of a Western lodge or dude ranch in the 1920s and 1930s,” says Terry Winchell of Fighting Bear Antiques, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. “For example, the ranchers could have brought some Gustav Stickley furniture from the East, had rustic furniture made locally and collected Navajo rugs brought up north from trading posts in the Southwest.” Winchell, who owns the antique store along with his wife, Claudia, offers an inventory that attracts the casual buyer as well as the serious collector. THE MIX: Specializes in furnishings by Thomas Molesworth, rustic furniture, folk art, American Indian beadwork, Navajo rugs and textiles, and other fine antiques. THE OWNERS: The Winchells have been in the antiques business in Jackson for more than 28 years and sit on the Western Design Conference board (westerndesignconference.com). Terry is the author of Molesworth (gibbs-smith.com) and is working on a book called Jackson Style. Fighting Bear Antiques, 375 S. Cache, Jackson Hole, WY, (307) 733-2669, fightingbear.com |
Sundance Catalog Opens a StoreFounded by Robert Redford in 1989 on a mountain in Utah, the Sundance Catalog Company (sundancecatalog.com) recently opened its flagship retail store at Park Meadows near Denver—the first of 20 planned nationwide over the next five years. Originally located in the General Store at Sundance Village, it was conceived to support the then-fledgling Sundance Film Festival. The catalog makes it a point to focus on environmental sustainability and to integrate the one-of-a-kind works of individual artists and artisans. |
